Summer Survival Kit
UI/UX, Web Design | 2017
The Summer Survival Kit is a proposed app that retells a given article (Summer Survival Kit for Recession Casualties and Inflation Victims —New York magazine) as an experiential game. It was created as a response to the question of if/how a digital editorial experience can exist over time and space.
I chose to approach the text by distilling it to its fundamental message about growth through compassion. In the app, users receive daily articles with recession survival tips, gradually build upon their knowledge and improving their character’s wellbeing. To bypass the restraints of time, users are encouraged to share readings with others, allowing fellow app users to become closer through their interactions and essentially putting the original article’s moral into practice.
